Customers can use the Layout programs (including Layout Freeware) to design sheet metal parts for card cages, chassis, boxes, front panels, and simple mechanical parts such as levers and latches. Douglas Electronics provides the same high quality, quick turn manufacturing services on sheet metal designs as for PCBs. The majority of the sheet metal fabrication is done on a computer-controlled turret punch press directly from your design file. Your parts will be produced much more economically through this automated process. A template file containing instructions and the standard punches for sheet metal fabrication is posted here. Any special or unusual shapes can be made by using a smaller punch to "nibble" out the desired shape. The maximum sheet size capacity of the punch is 24" x 24". Standard materials are 0.050", 0.063", and 0.090" thickness aluminum, but we are also able to process other materials on a custom basis. Breaking (bending of the sheet metal parts) is normally done on either a press break or a finger break, and you need not concern yourself with adding extra material to accommodate the bend, we will do that for you. Optional finishing of the parts (anodizing, painting etc.) is available, as is the application of silkscreened legends. This service is another quality end-to-end solution from Douglas Electronics. Manufacturing orders may be transmitted to the Douglas CAM facility via email, FTP, or any other method. Orders for file conversion services can also be returned electronically, for the fastest turn-around time. Please contact Douglas for more information on any of our quality products or services.
